Work Reconditioning

Injured workers benefit from physical therapist services from the onset of injury through their return to work. Early physical therapy intervention consists of treatment for acute neuromusculoskeletal problems and other injuries. Many patients who receive appropriate early care return to their job without additional rehabilitation services.

For those who are not able to return to work because of unresolved physical problems following acute care, the treatment focus changes to restoration of work-related function. Defined as work rehabilitation, these programs address the physical issues of flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and work-related function for the global outcome of return to work. Work rehabilitation is an intensive, work-related, goal-oriented conditioning program designed specifically to restore systemic neuromusculoskeletal functions, motor function, range of motion, and cardiovascular/pulmonary functions. The objective of the work rehabilitation program is to restore physical capacity and function to enable the patient/client to return to work.

Customized services to help injured workers return to work quickly and safely. Our team also works with businesses to create healthy and safe work environments.

Targeted Work
Patients that suffer from work-related injuries may meet the treatment goals of physical therapy but cannot return to work due to deconditioning (being out of shape).
Work conditioning programs, which often simulate the demands of a given job description, are designed to help patients with the following:

  • Recover strength
  • Improve endurance
  • Increase flexibility & mobility
  • Improve cardiorespiratory fitness

Personalized interventions are also provided to decrease the odds of re-injury upon return work. Typically, these programs consist of full-body intensive training with a focus on the activities that are similar to the physical demands required by a particular category of employment.
Reconditioning physical therapy is an individualized treatment program designed to return patients to their original core strength, endurance, flexibility, and mobility. Physical reconditioning is usually provided as one-on-one fitness training and conditioning programs. It also often includes exercises for the patient to perform at home. It is often targeted towards getting a patient ready to return to work.
